About Aeolian Islands Ferry

Explore the Eolian Islands (or Aeolian Islands). The Eolian Islands are a group of seven individual islands, Alicudi, Filicudi, Liapri, Panarea, Salina Stromboli and Vulcano. They are located off the northeastern coast of Sicily in the Tyrrhenian Sea and they are all of volcanic origin. The earliest islands to be formed were Panarea, Filicudi and Alicudi. The youngest are those which are still active today, Vulcano and Stromboli. The largest island is Lipari, and often the entire archipelago is called the Lipari Islands. All the islands have their own characteristics that distinguish them from the others, but all the islands are sublime in their own way. The islands were colonized by the Greeks around 580 BC. The Greek mythology ascribes the islands to Aeolus (Eolo in Italian), the son of Zeus, custodian of the four winds. The Eolian Islands have a mild mediterranean climate with little showers. The relatively undiscovered Eolian Islands have everything to make a holiday an unique event. Bays, coves, active vulcanoes, isolated reefs, crystal clear water, with an underwater world of sea-life, colours, and archaeological treasures. The Aeolian Islands have been listed by the UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.
